SedTrail
Tracing sediments: from source to reservoirs
SedTrail addresses one of the most pressing challenges in water resource management: understanding how sediments move from their sources in the landscape to their accumulation in reservoirs. Human interventions, climate change, and land use shifts have altered natural sediment dynamics, creating risks for ecosystems, water supply, and agriculture.
The project develops a holistic framework combining watershed models and reservoir hydrodynamics to quantify sediment loads, accumulation patterns, and the links between land management practices and sediment delivery. SedTrail focuses on the Sorraia River basin and the Maranhão reservoir, providing insights that support sustainable water management and long-term planning.
